This event for Runners is happening in May as one of several events I’m offering for Foot Health Awareness month.  You can register for this event individually or get a discount when you register for all 3 events (Foot Gymnastics for Dynamic Aging, Balancing Strength) here.


About 10 years ago I taught a Yoga for Runners workshop several times that was really popular.  It included a lot of yoga postures to “stretch” common “tight” spots in runners (calves, hamstrings, hip flexors, etc.).  Needless to say that my approach has completely changed based on more recent research – while passive stretching can feel good, greater adaptation to prevent pain and injury comes from strength & mobility training.  This workshop will include both strength & mobility exercises and feel-good stretches for a well-rounded approach to benefit runners.


Chronic use of orthotics and supportive footwear has led to modern feet being extremely weak & immobile (deconditioned).  When we go to run or pursue other athletic activities using deconditioned feet as our base of support for those activities, we are more prone to pain and injury.  Strengthening your “foot core” – the stabilizing muscles around your arch and plantar fascia – can improve ankle mobility and stability to gain better balance and prevent pain and injury from running.  We’ll do a lot of specific “foot core” strengthening exercises in this workshop.


In addition to foot strength, there will be a large focus on hip & hamstring strength in this workshop as those are other areas runners tend to experience pain.


Whether you are a runner already or wanting to prepare your body well as you transition into running more, this workshop will show you exercises to reduce your incidence of plantar fasciitis, foot pain, hip pain, hamstring tendonopathy, knee pain and more!
